Music Videos

I find inspiration in many things, but music has been an important contribution. While listening to a couple artists I imagined the music video. Here are a few of my visualizations of some songs.

This song, Beside You, by 5 Seconds of Summer, connects to anyone that is missing another. They’ve wrote it only being on the road for a month or so, but they’ve still felt that absence. I know they wrote the song in reference to touring with the band, but while I listened to the song really pictured the music video as a military man leaving his wife.

The way the singer sang the end of the song I envisioned the man looking over his family not ever being able to hold them again. After I got that image in my head the music video basically wrote itself. I know it’s not the band’s image and it’s more of a depressing video than I intended to write, but that is what the song shown me.

It has a realistic and battle field atmosphere and it shows what some of the military families risk and go through. It is very emotional and sad as the wife discovers she is pregnant.

This song, Trade Yourself In, by Shinedown, really hit me when I listened to it. I replayed it a few times to really grasp the whole video idea. When I did I immediately wrote it out. I interpreted the song and the industry picking apart these new young artists until they are bone dry. I saw this song as the lead singer being like a carrier for the devil. The ‘big honcho’ wakes in a room, but when he leaves the lead singer stops him and begins the song. The video is taken back in time where the big honcho meets a brilliant young girl and transforms her into the next top pop singer.

As the video goes on the man grows in size symbolizing that the industry’s pockets get bigger as the star rising in the charts. That being said the girl becomes unrecognizable and depressed at herself. In the end she kills herself and the man is find with it because he gets even more profits.

He is stuck by a car, that the lead singer is driving, and wakes back in the room. This time he is surrounded by all the people’s lives that he ruined to get rich. The ground behind him opens up and the girl in the video drop kicks him to hell. This video symbolizes the horror about the industry and how it feeds on the young and naïve.

Every time I listen to Never Be, by 5 Seconds of Summer, I think of many different things, but the video that stuck with me revolves around a girl, her boyfriend, and a few of their friends. In the beginning the band launches a quest for their fans to follow a trail of clues to find them at a secret concert.

The song I feel has a you live only once and live in the moment vibe to it. So the friends ditching school to go find their favorite band just made sense. In the end, they eventually find their band and they all have a great time. This video has a Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist inspiration to it, but most importantly it’s about having fun being silly with friends.

This song, Greenlight, by 5 Seconds of Summer, is clearly about them getting with a girl. They are sick of playing the games and just want to know if they have a chance and if so they just want to jump into it. In the music video I tapped into the band’s quirkiness and visualized them playing a virtual video game. They get drawn into a fantastical racing world.

Throughout the video each bandmate wants to obtain a certain goal and at the end none of them achieve their goals. The atmosphere of the video is funny and the mood is light. It also shows their humorous sides with the 90s video game styles such as CTR and matching the world like in the Spy Kids 3D movie.

I loved this song growing up and this is a little parody that I came up with, through a mother's perspective. Enjoy!

I came up with with parody song right after Halloween when my daughter wouldn't stop asking for candy. Enjoy!
